Question: How to Be Blissful When Materially Burdened?

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Dear Gurudeva, I would like to know how can a devotee be blissful when he has a heavy material commitment. I have seen devotees having financial difficulties who are forced to work hard to make money to support their family in many ways. Although we know we are not this body and everything is temporary, some are still forced to struggle materially according to their karma. How can a devotee remain blissful and lead a simple life in such tough situations? Thank you.

Answer: Work Hard for Krishna

As long as one thinks that his family and household paraphernalia belong to him, he must be in anxiety. It is only when he sees that he is working hard to maintain Krishna's household that he can be free from anxiety. In other words, the home must be established as an ashram, a place where all the family members are being trained how to become pure devotees of Krishna. In this way his hard labor will be transferred into devotional service, and he will taste the ecstasy of bhakti even while he is struggling with his job. Could it be that cow care is one of the kinds of devotional service that attracts Krishna's merciful blessings upon the devotees? Unlimited Resources at Pure Devotee's Command

By dint of his complete surrender unto Krishna, Krishna's pure devotee has Krishna as his only possession. And because Krishna is the possessor of everything, when the devotee possesses Krishna such a pure devotee's position is as good as being the possessor of everything. Therefore the pure devotee has unlimited resources at his command to engage in the Lord's service. He cannot be lacking in any way. This is confirmed in the following verse from the Bhagavad-gita:

ananyās' cintayanto māṁ
ye janāḥ paryupāsate
teṣāṁ nityābhiyuktānāṁ
yoga-kṣemaṁ vahāmy aham

"But those who always worship Me with exclusive devotion, meditating on My transcendental form, to them I carry what they lack, and I preserve what they have."

For those of us who are not yet completely pure devotees the Lord gives us as much resources as we can properly engage in His service.

Question by a devotee: How to Keep Faith When I Can't Go to Temple Often?

I read your daily sayings with attention and learn a lot from them. However, I recently lost my job and since transport is very expensive and the Radha Krishna temple is far away from where I live, how do I keep my association of devotees ongoing? I miss going to the temple but can't afford to do so anymore, and I am finding it hard to keep my faith sometimes when I am tired and discouraged. Can you provide any guidance on how I can keep my faith alive even if I pray at home? Many thanks   Answers by Citing the Vedic Version:  Always Remember Srila Prabhupada's Teachings   If by force of circumstances you cannot physically associate with the Lord's devotees, you should associate with them constantly within your heart by the method taught by Srila Prabhupada in a letter he wrote to his disciple, Sivananda Sen Das, who was feeling very lonely away from the association of the other devotees: "You write to say, 'I really miss Prabhupada and my Godbrothers' association so much.' But I may remind you that I am always with you. Wherever I am, you and your Godbrothers are there. Please remember always the humble teachings that you have received from me, and that will keep you always associated with me and with your Godbrothers also." If you will sincerely follow the above advise of Srila Prabhupada, you will feel strongly connected and protected in your Krishna consciousness even while you are physically separated from the devotees. Hare Krishna Rocks the Universe

In the material world we see that so many musicians come and go, some of them being prominent and influential for some time until they vanish into oblivion and are completely forgotten. But there is one type of music which never loses its power and is so potent that it impacts the entire universe. That music is the congregational chanting of the Hare Krishna mahamantra. It is so powerful that simply by Lord Caitanya's performance of it 500 years ago in the area of Navadvipa in India a wave of love of God was introduced which will gradually inundate the entire universe. Srila Prabhupada describes this as follows in his purport to Sri Caitanya Caritamrita, Adi Lila, Chapter 13, Text 32:

"One may raise the question how all three worlds became inundated with love of Krishna, since Caitanya Mahaprabhu performed kirtana only in the Navadvipa area. The answer is that Lord Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu is Krishna Himself. The entire cosmic manifestation results from the Lord's first setting it in motion. Similarly, since the sankirtana movement was first set in motion five hundred years ago by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's desire that it spread all over the universe, the Krishna consciousness movement, in continuity of that same motion, is now spreading all over the world, and in this way it will gradually spread all over the universe. With the spread of the Krishna consciousness movement, everyone will merge in an ocean of love of Krishna."

By the mercy of Srila Prabhupada, who is spreading Lord Caitanya's movement all over the world, everyone now has the opportunity to awaken the dormant pure love of God, which has been sleeping since time immemorial in their hearts.

Krishna means all-attractive. This is the supreme name, Krishna, "All-attractive." He can attract everyone

TRANSLATION

Yasoda-dulala, Govinda-Gopala. Yasoda-dulala means pet son of Mother Yasoda. Govinda-Gopala. And He's cowherd's boy—Govinda, giving pleasure to the cows. Vrndavana-purandara—the chief of the Vrndavana land. He's the center of attraction for everyone in Vrndavana. Gopi-priya-jana. He's very favorable to the gopis—Gopi-priya. Radhika-ramana, and He's always enjoying the company of Radharani, therefore His name is Radhika-ramana. Bhuvana-sundara-bara. So, He attracted so many gopis. That means He's attractive to the whole universe. Nobody is more attractive than Krsna within this universe—or within anywhere. Therefore He's called Bhuvana- sundara-bara. "Bara" means the chief.

May There Be Universal Spiritual Awakening

The Srimad Bhagavatam calls for a revolution of spiritual awakening throughout the entire universe:

svasty astu viśvasya khalaḥ prasīdatāṁ
dhyāyantu bhūtāni śivaṁ mitho dhiyā
manaś ca bhadraṁ bhajatād adhokṣaje
āveśyatāṁ no matir apy ahaitukī

"May there be good fortune throughout the universe, and may all envious persons be pacified. May all living entities become calm by practicing bhakti-yoga, for by accepting devotional service they will think of each other's welfare. Therefore let us all engage in the service of the supreme transcendence, Lord Sri Krishna, and always remain absorbed in thought of Him."

This is what is needed on this planet now more than ever, more than anything else. Therefore all the world leaders should meet together and discuss how this entire planet can be inundated with Krishna consciousness as soon as possible. In this way all the problems that are besieging the human population will be saved in one simple stroke.

As a young child I was taught by my parents to believe in God. We regularly went to church every Sunday without fail. But because my understanding of God was very vague and unclear I was not able to tangibly connect with God in such a way that I could become uplifted from the realm of material miseries. But when I discovered God's personal identity as Krishna my life was radically and wonderfully transformed. It is common sense. If I am going to fully devote myself to someone I need to know who he is. If God is a person, He must certainly have a name.

Due to an increasing disgust with the dogmas and abuses of sectarian religion, there is now a strong rising interest in spirituality, a non-sectarian approach to spiritual awakening. People are seeking spiritual enlightenment outside of the constraints of sectarian religious organizations. They want to get the pure essence of religion, to have their own personal experience of God. They see that sectarian religion has fomented ignorance, disunity, hate, and cruelty, and they want out.
