Question: How to Be Blissful When Materially Burdened?

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Dear Gurudeva, I would like to know how can a devotee be blissful when he has a heavy material commitment. I have seen devotees having financial difficulties who are forced to work hard to make money to support their family in many ways. Although we know we are not this body and everything is temporary, some are still forced to struggle materially according to their karma. How can a devotee remain blissful and lead a simple life in such tough situations? Thank you.

Answer: Work Hard for Krishna

As long as one thinks that his family and household paraphernalia belong to him, he must be in anxiety. It is only when he sees that he is working hard to maintain Krishna's household that he can be free from anxiety. In other words, the home must be established as an ashram, a place where all the family members are being trained how to become pure devotees of Krishna. In this way his hard labor will be transferred into devotional service, and he will taste the ecstasy of bhakti even while he is struggling with his job.
